Giving the Democratic Party
Back to the People.

It’s important to note that the Chair of the Party does not set the platform. Democratic State Central Committee members (delegates) write and approve the platform. It’s the Chair’s job to ensure that our elected officials and candidates adhere to and support the platform.

It is only reasonable that many, including voting delegates, would want to know where I stand on a variety of issues.  Below are issue planks that reflect my values. While not as exhaustive or in-depth as separate policy papers, I hope this will provide insight into how I think on several, but certainly not all, key issues of the day. If I have not addressed an issue that is important to you, please let me know:  Kimberly@voteforkimberly.com

I am interested in you; I care about what you think, and I hope we can have a meeting of the minds.  Thanks for visiting this site, and exploring my thoughts and opinions.

Democratically yours,

Kimberly

Health Care

I am endorsed by the California Nurses Association for a simple reason: Not only do I agree that it’s past time for the United States to join every major industrialized country on Earth and provide GUARANTEED health care for all Americans – yes, healthcare is a human...

Labor

Labor’s values are our values. Its place is in every aspect of working society and anywhere workers need representation. Our social contract with society must begin by demonstrating our commitment to supporting single payer health care, a universal minimum wage,...

Immigration

All immigration laws must be grounded in civil, human, and labor rights. Now, more than ever, we must stand up to racism and bigotry. We cannot allow a right-wing agenda to divide us with anti-immigrant hatred and xenophobia. Underscoring my agreement with the CDP’s...

LGBTQ Rights

Since the election of the current President, we’ve seen just how easily our hard-fought rights can be taken away. Just look at what Trump and his team have already done to transgender youth who simply want to be able to use the bathroom of their choice at school. Here...

Civil Rights

Inside the White House, he - who must not be named - has already started to make good on his promises to change the very things that give us our national identity. The principles enshrined in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution are being openly mocked, and...

Justice Reform

Yes, #SayHerName and #BlackLivesMatter… because people of color continue to suffer intolerable acts of police violence. To deny this reality is only to perpetuate the marginalization and minimization of people of color. Acknowledging the contribution of law...

Homelessness & Poverty

We are living in the sixth largest and arguably one of the most robust and productive economies in the world. And yet, the streets of our cities, the byways of towns and freeway underpasses, are the only homes hundreds of thousands of Californians have.  Subsidized...

Campaign Finance Reform

If you know my politics this is probably not a surprise, but I strongly favor publicly financed campaigns. Until we get money out of politics, we will never really know what is driving our leaders' decisions. Most doctors and nurses want to practice medicine, not fill...

Economic Justice

There can be no denying that Californians (like the rest of Americans) suffer from policies influenced by powerful corporate interests.  In many ways, we have become the oligarchy our nation’s founders fled, searching for a land where they could be free. Even...

Public Education

The corporatization of our education system has degraded what it means to have a national public education system we can all be proud of. School districts throughout California are under attack by the proliferation of charter schools, which in practice, act as private...

The Environment

Climate change is real and Democrats need to be on the front lines protecting our environment. As the Water Protectors have shown us, there is all too often a racial and class component to this fight. We need to support the Native American communities at Standing...

Veterans & Service Personnel

Growing up an Army kid, I have a special place in my heart for the brave women and men who wear/wore our nation's uniforms. Yes, we certainly treat returning veterans better than we did during the Vietnam War, but despite the work of First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr....

Women’s Rights

Despite the fact that women make up more than 50 percent of the population, highly qualified women have been told to sit down and wait their turn for far too long. There has been no concerted effort by Party leadership to address the gender disparity we see among the...

Housing

Although the right to adequate housing is recognized internationally, the gap between this broadly accepted human rights principle and the view of housing rights within the U.S. reflects an incoherent reality to our stated values of compassion for all, regardless of...

Gun Control

Yes, California has the most restrictive gun control laws in the country; and yes Gov. Jerry Brown signed six gun-control measures last year. But all of our work falls woefully short of what must be done to curb the epidemic of gun violence in California and the U.S....
